Okinawa
Distinct island culture born of the age of Rukyu Kingdom
Okinawa like much of Japan, abounds with UNESCO World Heritage sites, the first of which is the Shikinaen Royal Gardens, a throwback to the old Kingdom of Ryukyu. Stunning flora and beautiful architecture as you stroll around these peaceful Japanese gardens. In the North of Okinawa visit Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, home to 21,000 different sea animals and the massive Kuroshio aquarium which houses an 8.5meter whale shark. Not far from the aquarium is another UNESCO world heritage site, the castle ruins of Nakijin, which was the residence of the Hokuzan lords and was constructed before the birth of the Ryukyu Kingdom. It is built on a spot approximately 100 meters above sea level, which also affords spectacular views over the East China Sea. Water sports from the yacht on anchor in the crystal-clear sea.
