Uwajima

The real life of rural Japan

As we move off the beaten path, we will visit Uwajima. Here, we will see a more rural side of Japan with the option to visit a small rural temple and have tea with the Abbot. Uwajima is also known for its “Bull Sumo”, where two bulls wrestle with one another. This is considered a sacred sport and is officiated by priests with no harm to the bulls! We have arranged a private ‘bull fight’ to take place just for you. Local people, local festivals, cuisine, shopping and events abound in this great town. The shrine to the god of fertility is also worth a visit, but maybe not for the easily embarrassed!
