Uwajima
The real life of rural Japan
As we move off the beaten path, we will visit Uwajima. Here, we will see a more rural side of Japan with the option to visit a small rural temple and have tea with the Abbot. Uwajima is also known for its “Bull Sumo”, where two bulls wrestle with one another. This is considered a sacred sport and is officiated by priests with no harm to the bulls! We have arranged a private ‘bull fight’ to take place just for you. Local people, local festivals, cuisine, shopping and events abound in this great town. The shrine to the god of fertility is also worth a visit, but maybe not for the easily embarrassed!
With an annual average temperature of about 16 to 17oC, the city has Japan's mild Pacific throughout the year.

Bull Sumo Five times a year bull sumo tournaments take place, the clash between bull and bull, unfolding in the arena with 20m diameter.
Yusumizugaura Terraced Fields “Plow a way to heaven" is a epithet used for these terraced fields.
Uwajima Ushi-Oni Matsuri held from July 22 to July 24 every year. An "ushi-oni" ("cow demon") with a scary head on a cow-shaped, 5- to 6-m bamboo frame body and with a sword-shaped tail, parades through the street.
