Shimane & Tottori

The land of gods

Thanks to the natural blessings and geographic closeness to China and Korea, the ancient civilization of Izumo Province has flourished in today’s Sanin region, including Tottori & Shimane.
Shimane's history is so vast and deep that the earliest time it first appeared was in the time of the Japanese mythology. Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine in Shimane is also famous as the place where myriads of Japanese gods gather to hold annual meetings.
Tottori is famous for its Sand Dunes, Tottori Sakyu. Stretching 2.4km north to south and 16km east to west, it is the largest sand dunes in Japan. The ripples swept in the sand by the winds of the Sea of Japan are a constant delight to visitors.
Before sunset, cruise around Oki Islands recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark. Only four of the almost 200 Oki Islands are inhabited and as the sun sets it aligns perfectly looking just like a candle on the rock on top of candle Island.
