Shodoshima

Warm and Beautiful Olive Island

Shodo Shima is the second largest island in the Seto Naikai, surrounded by calm beautiful waters.
The olive groves in Shodo Shima are evidence of the Mediterranean climate that the Seto Naikai experiences.
Anchor in the large natural South facing harbor, Uchinomi Bay. The island is famous inside Japan for, not only the olives, but also its Somen Noodles and Soy Sauce, which has been in production here for well over 400 years through days of the Samurai. We will visit a small traditional Somen factory and see how the unique flat noodles are made, then take in the musty smell of the 150-year old cedar barrels needed to make the most perfect soy sauce in a traditional soy factory.
A short tender ride to visit the set of the acclaimed movie, 24 Eyes, a story of a young female teacher and her 12 students prewar.
